Gilmore Girls Laid the Foundation for Today's Fashion

Hello Friends!

So, I did it. I finally finished Gilmore Girls and boy was it a rollercoaster. 7 seasons. 4 months. 154 episodes. I noticed while I was watching this show, that there are a lot of fashion trends still very alive and well. The witty commentary from Lorelai and inconsistent love life of Rory make it an easy light hearted show to watch. Also who doesn't love the innocence from the 2000's ? Today I will be listing my top five fashion trends that I noticed are resurfacing now.

 Shoulder Bags

It is no secret that the shoulder bags are having their big resurgence in every trend report. This trend originally came from the 90s/ 2000s era which, coincidentally is exactly when the show was born. This bag was probably the most worn accessories between all of the characters on the show. Different colors, embellishments, and textures were seen across all seven seasons!

Silk Tops

Another active trend in today's world. These tops were Lorelai's go to for date nights and working at the Inn. Additionally, a common item barrowed by Rory. These button up blouses can be easily found at places like Zara or Princess Polly.

Cropped Cardigans

The cropped cardigans were a staple in all of the Gilmore Girl's closets (yes, even Emily). From Friday Night Dinners to breakfast  runs at Luke's, these cardigans were with the girls everywhere for every occasion. Another Y2K trend that is being brought back to life.

Graphic Tees

Almost all age groups took part in this trend from Jess's baseball tee's to Lane's rocker wear to Lorelai's casual look lounging around in her house. Graphic tees can be conformed to any and all styles a person wants to wear whether you're skater of chic.  My favorite place to get oversized graphic tees and graphic sweatshirts is Urban Outfitters.

Layers

The layered oxford and sweater vest look, the layered t-shirt look, even the layered hoodie look. This cast was all about wearing as many shirts at a time. We can see how essential layers are to fashion today, and I think we have Gilmore Girls to thank for the inspiration.
